本課程主題為「VOA: Science & Technology」,修課對象為大一學人。協助學人加強聽、說、讀、寫四項語言技能,聽力理解及閱讀分析、書寫及句型應用、溝通表達及發音等面向。 透過「VOA: Science & Technology」探討與近來科學及科技發展。相關議題包括astronomy(NASA Finds Evidence of Carbon Dioxide in Exoplanet Atmosphere、NASA Spacecraft Records Sounds of Space Rocks Hitting Mars),及biology and environmental issues(Scientists Estimate the Ant Population on Earth、Technology System Aims to Protect Whales from Ships)。加強學人「人文素養」及對世界的關懷。 此課程旨在培養同事教育基礎核心能力,融合中學六年所學基本聽說讀寫能力,提升書寫並加強口說能力。亦強調自主學習,及「自我管理與深度學習能力」。 透過課堂「聽力練習」並寫下關鍵字,訓練學人抓重點之能力,及英文檢定考試的應試答題技巧。 透過「撰寫摘要」,加強「句型應用」及書寫能力。亦加強「獨立思考」及「規劃與組織能力」及學人「敘事能力」、「反思能力」及「表達能力」。 上台報告「摘要」則修正學人發音、加強學人「溝通」及「表達能力」,鼓勵學人使用英文「溝通並解決問題」。
