概述

This course aims to facilitate students' research, art, media, or curatorial projects and is designed to work with my advisees. Students taking this course for the first time: Please email me and obtain my permission before taking it. A bit about myself: I received formal training in filmmaking, traditional black-and-white photography, and radio production in Taiwan, and I received the Golden Harvest Film Award for my experimental film/video work. My academic training was at the University of Chicago, where I was trained as a cinema and media studies scholar and a humanities and art scholar (therefore, I also received theoretical training in gender and sexuality studies, affect theories, etc., to just name a few.) You may find some of my research specialties and curatorial experience on the Powered Image Working Lab website (https://www.powered-image.xyz/ ) Students interested in pursuing a Ph.D. or an M.A. research project, an art project, a film/ media project, or a curational project relating to my specialties are welcome to work with me. I will train students to horn their research skills, including analytical reading, analytical writing, theory analysis, film/art/media analysis, building up a bibliography /or filmography, etc., so that students can work on their Ph.D. dissertations and M.A. theses, film/art/media projects, or curatorial projects and complete them in a timely fashion. Those interested in taking this course should contact me via email no later than the first week of the semester. Please introduce yourself to me and let me know your research interests. Our work will begin from there.

The course is open to students who are active learners and who know what their academic, creative, or curatorial interests are.

1. Depending on students ' work progress, I will meet with them individually and around three to four times per semester, yet I will let students decide how often they would like to meet with me. *Students taking this course should initiate their meetings with me and decide how frequently they would like to meet.* 2. Those who take this course are expected to send me theory notes, research notes, film/media/art notes, etc., at least three days before our meetings. If students send out their notes later than expected, then our meeting will be postponed automatically for a week. 3. Students should proofread and copyedit their work before sending it to me.
