This course provides an introductory overview of biomaterials for students with minimal prior knowledge in materials science. It explores three primary types of biomaterials—metals, ceramics, and synthetic and natural polymers—detailing their chemical structures, physical properties, processing, and practical applications. A significant focus of the course is on biocompatibility, crucial for their use in biomedical engineering. Topics include how biomaterials interact with proteins and cells, as well as the specific immune responses they trigger.
