Course Description: Through in-class discussion and weekly translation practices of a variety of genres, both from English to Chinese and from Chinese to English, students are expected to acquire useful skills and essential knowledge needed for novice translators. Students are also encouraged to be proactive in the learning process while working on various in-class activities such as self-critique, peer-review, and oral presentations. Course Objectives: 1. To familiarize students with fundamental skills and knowledge of translation 2. To help students develop the ability of problem-solving and decision-making in dealing with difficulties and challenges arising in the translation process 3. To make students aware of the nature of working as a translator and its requirements
