Purpose This course offers basic techniques and approaches for the analysis of engineering and project economics. It prepares for the students to learn more advanced courses in project evaluation, project finance, corporate finance, and financial management. Especially, this course paves the ways for students to understand the various new funding approaches for engineering, procurement, and construction projects, such as the build-operate-transfer model, private finance initiatives, and other project finance methods. New funding approaches are key to meet the needs for the current infrastructure initiatives around the world. Outline 1. Introduction to financial statement 2. Financial ratios and financial planning 3. Time is money 4. Debt management 5. Valuation of stocks and bonds 6. Rate of return analysis 7. Present-value analysis 8. Depreciation 9. After-tax cash flow analysis 10. An introduction to project evaluation

1. Exercises for each lecture: 20% 2. Three mid-term exams and a final exam: Each 20%
