Organic chemistry I provides the student with the necessary background to understand the chemistry of carbon-containing compounds. Topics will include structure, chemical bonding, stereochemistry, nomenclature, acid-base concept, structure-reactivity relationship, and reactions of the major classes of organic compounds. There will be two 2-hour lectures per week
Students should complete the courses of general chemistry and general physics. Lectures are mainly given in English. Students should have English's-listening ability
One to two teaching assistants (助教) will be available. Other organic chemistry book will be used as reference if necessary.
Mid-term examination (45%), final examination (45%), performance (10%): attendance (出席率), availability of textbook or related reference (準備教科書), participation in class discussion (課堂討論), etc
