概述

This course aims to equip TESOL graduate students with comprehensive research methodologies and thesis writing skills pertinent to second language studies. The first section of the course will introduce commonly used methodologies in second language fields. Then, it covers essential aspects of conducting research, such as formulating research questions, developing research designs, utilizing data collection methods, and interpreting commonly reported statistical outcomes. The latter section of the course will focus on the knowledge and skills necessary for effective thesis writing. Students will explore the organization of a thesis, the relevant content for different sections, and the linguistic and presentational features of thesis writing. By the end of the course, students will be able to 1. elaborate on commonly used methodology paradigms in the field of second language fields 2. Develop the skills to design and plan research projects using appropriate methodologies tailored for second language studies. 3. Gain proficiency in various data collection methods and the capacity to interpret commonly reported statistical outcomes. 4. Critically read, analyze, and evaluate existing research literature in the field of TESOL. 5. Understand the structure and components of a thesis and master the linguistic and presentational features of academic thesis writing. 6. write a coherent and concise research proposal that meets academic writing standards and conventions.
