This course is quantum statistical mechanics. Quantum Mechanics (535366) and Statistical Mechanics (535368) are combined classes to teach quantum physics. As well-known, quantum physics is the basic scholar of modern science and technologies. It may be difficult for anyone to be a premier in nanotechnologies without the precise knowledge of quantum physics. However, what is "quantum" appears quite strange to beginners. This class is then an introductory quantum physics for engineering students. In particular, we will hit what/how many guys misunderstand about quantum physics. For example, to solve Schrodinger equation differs from to know quantum physics. This just corresponds to the essence of quantum physics. In quantum mechanics (535366), we will discuss mainly one quantum particle systems (ex., an electron). In Statistical Mechanics (535368), we will discuss many quantum particles system. NOTE: strongly recommend to attend the Statistical Mechanics (535366), too. I illustrate: 1) relationship between quantum mechanics and device engineering, 2) what the wavefunction is. 3) what to solve Schrodinger equation is.--- what the observation is. 4) several methods to solve Schrodinger equation.
A good knowledge of the following subject is required in order to do well in the course. - introductory physics - introductory electronics - Linear Algebra - Calculus/Differential Equations
The lectures will be given in blackboard writing and power point presentation. All reports and questions should be made in English.
