Purpose This course introduces fundamental concepts and practices of project finance, with a special focus on large engineering and infrastructure projects. The primary purposes of this course are: • To introduce project financial modeling and evaluation • To introduce the development and management of major infrastructure projects from a financial perspective • To introduce project company structures and contracts • To introduce project risk management • To introduce key project advisors • To introduce project contract design • To introduce project financial structuring • To introduce the governance of project company default risk Course Outline To achieve these purposes, this course is organized into 6 lectures, 3 case studies, and 3 student case presentations: 1. Financial statements 2. Financial ratios 3. Project evaluation 4. Project finance practice I &II 5. Legal advisor 6. Independent engineer 7. Insurance advisor 8. Offtake contract design 9. Funding needs and options 10. Governing project default risk 11. Case Study 1: Texas HSR Project 12. Case Study 2: Chad-Cameroon 13. Case Study 3: Calpine Corporation 14. Case Study 4: Airbus A3XX
