概述

The aim of this course is to enhance students' critical English reading abilities and develop students' ability to write well-developed paragraphs of college writing. Students will read a variety of texts styles with enhanced fluency following coherent and effective use of reading strategies. Students will also actively engage in extensive reading with a critical perspective (e.g., distinguishing between fact and opinion, evaluating sources, and identifying points of view).For writing, students will build their paragraph writing skills and eventually learn to the ability to write a five paragraph essay following logical division of ideas. Level of English: CEFR B2-C1 Course objective: Students will learn to... 1. understand specific vocabulary [1] 2. work out the meaning of difficult words [1] 3. read quickly to find specific information [1] 4. read quickly to get overall meaning [1] 5. read carefully to understand a text [1] 6. identify the key ideas of a text [1] 7. identify supporting ideas and examples [1] 8. take brief, relevant notes [1] 9. use one’s own words when taking notes [1] 10. understand the organization of a text [1] 11. enhance reading fluency [3] 12. develop a critical perspective (e.g., distinguish between fact and opinion, evaluate sources, and identifying points of view) through reading [3] 1. plan written assignments [1] 2. integrate information from different sources [2] 3. summarize and paraphrase information from sources [1, 2] 4. develop clear arguments [2, 3] 5. write well-structured paragraphs [3] 6. write well-structured essays [3] 7. write well-structured research papers [3] 8. organize ideas coherently [1, 2, 3] 9. express ideas in clear English using vocabulary, grammar, transitions, or sentence structures that demonstrate appropriate academic style [1, 2, 3] 10. refer to sources in written work and write a bibliography/references section [1, 2, 3] 11. revise and proofread written work [1]
