化學(一)

Purpose and outline of the course: Purpose: Introduce to undergraduate students the basic ideas of general chemistry that are necessary to understand contemporary chemistry. Outline: The course starts with introduction to quantum chemistry of atoms and molecules. Later we study phenomenological description of gases, liquids, and solids.. If you decide to take the second semester of this class (i.e., General Chemistry II), you would learn basic facts about the theory of chemical reactions and chemical thermodynamics.

Teaching details 1. Every Friday class starts with a short, 2-3 minutes quiz. There will be 14 quizzes during the semester. The best 10 quizzes results will be used for computing an average, which gives 30% of the final score. 2. The midterm exam (Oct 25, 6-9PM) contributes 40% to the final score. 3. The final exam (Dec 27, 6-9PM) contributing 40% to the final score. (The exact date of the final exam will be announced later.)
