As human life span progressively increases worldwide, knowledge of the effects of aging on human pathophysiology has become of great relevance to medicine. Therefore, developing strategies to maintain optimal health and to promote healthy aging in an increasingly aging human population is becoming a global challenge and an urgent need. This course aims to provide an overview of the fundamental concepts in modern gerontology, namely the biology of aging, and to review the latest and most important advances and themes in translational medicine. The course will cover the following parts: Part-I, basic mechanisms and pathways that associate with aging and longevity; Part-II, interventions that modulate aging and prolong healthspan in mammals.
(1) Written reports on thematic topics (70%) (2) Oral presentation and written report on that presentation (30%)
