I. Course description (Key-points of course, requisite skills and abilities, course restrictions.) This course intends to enhance listening and speaking skills by means of introducing and familiarizing students with popular programs with various topics (such as society, culture, politics and so on) from mainly BBC Radio 4 (British). During the first hour of the weekly course, students are asked to listen three times of the selected program. While listening the material, they are also required to take notes. In the second hour, students are allowed to have around 8-minute group discussion and then, each student will have to give a roughly 2-minute summary or feedback of what they have heard. Students’ progress of this training will be recorded, and each student will be commented upon in order to strengthen their listening and speaking skill. II. Course aims (How the course will enhance students’ abilities, how the course links with students’ other academic courses.) After taking this intensive training course, students’ listening and speaking skills will be greatly improved. They will, at the same time, be familiar with current affairs in a variety of fields.

Weekly Oral Report - Student Group Guidelines: 1. First student: Provide a summary of the first half of the program. (Please refrain from using slides). Time limit: 5 minutes. 2. Second student: Provide a summary of the second half of the program. (Please refrain from using slides). Time limit: 5 minutes. 3. Third student: Explain why the individual had an impactful life, and present additional materials related to their life. *(Slides are required)*. Time limit: 5 minutes. Midterm Exam: 3-Minute Presentation 1. One PowerPoint slide is required; it is recommended to include images. 2. The presentation, delivered entirely in English, must be completed within 3 minutes. 3. The presentation should focus on the most interesting facts you’ve discovered (these facts must be sourced from the radio). 4. A 250-300 word summary of your presentation must be submitted on the day of your presentation. Final Term Exam: 5-Minute Oral Presentation Students are required to remain on stage for at least 4 minutes. 1. First 3 minutes: Explain why the individual had an impactful life, based on the materials provided in the program. 2. Last 2 minutes: Share your personal reflections on the individual’s life.
