No electronic devices (phones, tablets, computers etc.) allowed. Students enrolled in this course should be high-intermediate learners of English. Advancing English focuses on topics relevant to students’ lives and integrates as many authentic texts as possible into the syllabus (audio, visual and print). At the same time, it provides enough scaffolding in vocabulary and grammar for students to fully integrate and actively discuss those topics. Activities are designed to create authentic opportunities for interaction and communication in the classroom.
Midterm Exam: 35% Final Term Exam: 40% Attendance and Participation: 25% (This score includes regular attendance (you are considered absent if you are more than 20 min late or if you are absent from the classroom for more than 20 min during class time), class participation, and completing homework assignments.)
