This is the second half of Engineering Mathematics, which is designed to be a full academic year course. This course aims to establish the fundamental mathematical knowledge of sophomore mechanical engineering students. Linear algebra, vector calculus, Fourier analysis, and partial differential equations will be covered in this course. By the end of the semester, students are expected to be able to: 1. Analyze engineering problems via mathematic approaches 2. Write governing equations for physical problems, including actual systems 3. Solve the governing equations by mathematical techniques 4. Explain the physical meanings of mathematical equations/calculations. 5. Improve English listening and reading skills and be ready to take more EMI courses 6. Use communication skills and work as a team
Calculus
A. All of the course materials will be available on e3, including the syllabus, lecture notes, homework solutions, and grades. All materials covered in class will be repeated in Mandarin right after the English version. B. Homework will be graded by effort instead of correctness, while all late submissions receive only half of the total points. Late submissions will not be accepted if they do not address the upcoming exam. C. There is no specific grade distribution required for this course, and there will not be any grade adjustments from me for this course. D. There will be a singing event on 4/28. Please sign up for it if you are interested! (1 extra point/song is given to all volunteers on the final grade) ※ For all quarantined or sick leave students, as well as those who are taking this course remotely, recorded lectures will be posted on e3 (only for the students in need). However, in order to make sure all students are on the same page, lectures will only be available for a week on e3. Homework: 10% Midterm 1 & 2: 30% each (10 extra pts given for each exam correction, 5 extra pts for the 3 most caring students) Final: 30%

| 第 10 週 | 4/21: 2nd midterm. 4/23: 2nd midterm solution correction. |
| 第 11 週 | Fourier series, Fourier cosine and sine series, Fourier series of any period, Fourier integral. |
| 第 12 週 | Fourier cosine and sine integral, Fourier transform, Convolution. |
| 第 13 週 | Partial differential equations, Boundary value problems, Wave equations, Separation of variables. |
| 第 14 週 | Heat and Laplace equations. |
| 第 15 週 | D'Alembert's solution of wave equation, Final exam review. |
| 第 16 週 | 6/2: Final Exam. |
