Independent Study
This is a one-semester course in the theory of functions of a complex variable and its application for PHYSICAL problems. We shall first learn fundamental theorems in complex analysis and then introduce applications of residues and conformal mapping. The latter is applied to study heat conduction, electrostatic potential, and fluid flow. This course is extremely helpful for students who would like to excel physics in the future. The following topics will be covered. 1. Complex numbers 2. Analytic functions 3. Elementary functions 4. Integrals 5. Series 6. Residues and their applications 7. Conformal mapping
Calculus I, Calculus II, and Differential Equation.
