This course is to introduce the fundamental principles governing wave motions in solids. Students will be introduced to the mathematical formulations of the governing equations of wave motion, analytical and numerical techniques of solving these equations. Waves in layered systems will be particularly analyzed for applications in engineering and geophysics. Students should be highly motivated to search and study some of the classic papers related to waves, including Rayleigh wave, Love wave, Stoneley wave, Lamb wave among others.
