This course aims to introduce a wide range of crucial topics in mathematical methods and modeling. The topics will include 1. scaling and dimensional analysis; 2. regular and singular perturbation; 3. calculus of variations; 4. Green's functions and integral equations; 5. nonlinear wave propagation; and 6. stability and bifurcation. If time is permitted, all the above topics will be covered.
Students are expected to understand Linear Algebra、Analysis, and Differential equations. Meanwhile, students are familiar with Matlab or Python.
The grading policy will be 1. biweekly homework assignment: We expect to have seven homework assignments. The percentage will be 56 %. 2. two exams: The first exam will be held on 4/9. The second one will be held on 6/4. Based on the order of scores, the percentages will be 26 % and 18 % respectively。
