This course offers graduate students the basic knowledge about carbohydrate nomenclature, structures, conformations, synthesis of carbohydrate molecules including monosaccharides, oligosaccharides, and their protein and lipid conjugates. Course materials are largely selected from a textbook (see below). Two invited seminars concerning the use of enzymes for oligosaccharide synthesis and preparation of donors will be arranged, which will be given by related specialists (dates to be announced).
The minimal prerequisite for the course is organic chemistry including the level I, II, and/or III. Course materials and lectures will be given mainly in English.
There will be a final examination (80%) and a written literature report (20%)
