Health economics is particularly intriguing because it bridges economics and health care, offering insights into how resources can be optimized to enhance health outcomes. It deals with critical questions such as how health services are financed, the efficiency of various health interventions, and the equity of health service distribution. The field also explores the economic implications of public policies, the behavior of healthcare providers, and the choices of consumers in health markets. Studying health economics helps inform better policy decisions, ensuring that health systems are both effective and sustainable, which is vital for public welfare. This course aims to provide basic health economic concepts to international students are interested in healthcare policy making.
1. This is an introductory level course. 2. Students do not need to have prior economic knowledge in order to enroll in this course.
The work consists of: (1) final take home report (80%); and (2) student participation (20%).
