Course Description: This course provides an in-depth exploration of the molecular biology of viruses, their infection mechanisms, and interactions with host cells. Topics include replication strategies of animal viruses, gene regulation, viral particle assembly and release, chronic and latent infections, and the molecular basis of virus-induced diseases. The course will also cover applications of viral vectors and highlight current advances in virology research. Course Objectives: The course aims to equip students with the ability to critically analyze and synthesize virology research literature, understand viral mechanisms at the molecular and cellular levels, and apply this knowledge in virology research, clinical settings, or public health contexts.

Students are expected to have a foundational understanding of molecular biology, cell biology, and general microbiology, and to have completed an introductory course in virology or a related subject. Familiarity with the structure and function of DNA and RNA, mechanisms of gene expression regulation, host–pathogen interactions, and the classification and basic life cycles of common viruses is essential. Proficiency in experimental design and scientific literature analysis will further enhance students' ability to comprehend the mechanisms of viral pathogenesis, virus–host immune interactions, and current topics in virology research explored throughout the course.
