本課程結合STS與社會運動理論觀點,關注科技與社會運動之間的交會及複雜的意涵;探討科技社會多樣的公民參與形式,以及公民行動如何影響科學知識生產、政治、政策與社會層面。課程探討的核心問題包括:社會運動如何形塑政策過程?社會運動如何挑戰科學知識的可信度、如何影響知識生產和科學實作?科學知識和科學家在尋求社會變革的運動中扮演什麼角色?科技如何促進跨界的公民行動?單元內容涵蓋了科技社會運動的重要學理概念、形塑科技社會的主要社會運動型態(例如健康社運與病患團體行動、資訊社運、環境正義運動、農糧運動),及國內外重要科技與食安爭議案例,以增進學生對當前重要思潮和學理觀點的掌握,以及對重要議題分析、批判和獨立研究的能力。

由老師對課程單元作綜合性介紹,學生輪流負責報告該週指定閱讀書目的重要論點、讀後想法或問題。其他同學課前閱讀完該週指定書目,並於課堂上提問和參與討論。
