概述

Course Overview: Academic writing is one of the critical skills students have to acquire in college to prepare them for professional work and general communication. This writing course is designed to teach college students how to write in an academic and professional context. You will learn how to structure different types of essays depending on the rubric or task you are trying to achieve. You will be taught how to plan, execute, and finalize your essay. There will be multiple small practice exercises as well as different essay tasks to further train you in the appropriate use of vocabulary and transitions. The ultimate goal of this course is to make you a more confident writer and provide you with the necessary skills to continue improving on your own. Course Outcomes: 1. This writing course prepares students to respond to contextual academic and professional writing. 2. Practicing writing short paragraphs and essays will familiarize students with different types of college essays. 3. Students will learn how to analyze and write cause & effect essays, comparison essays, reaction essays, and argument essays. 4. Students will also learn how to combine different types of essay styles into research papers while learning how to cite sources.

評分方式

Homework: Students will complete in-class exercises every week with some exercise being given as homework. Completion of these exercises will be taken into account for the course grade. Grading: Midterm Exam 30 % - An essay of 600 words based on one of the already taught essay types. Final Exam 35 % - An essay of 700 words based on one of the essay types. Attendance 35% - This score includes regular attendance, class participation, and completing homework assignments.
