Participate: Learning is a social act and can be best achieved within a community of learners (this class) through engaging, collaborative, and participatory class discussions. Each student is expected to engage in the assigned readings carefully, actively, and critically and come prepared to be an active participant of class discussions. Your individual contributions and serious participation in class activities benefit the entire community of learners (the class). Be an independent learner: You and you alone are responsible for your learning (not the instructor), and you also have an impact on the learning of others. Just going through the motions of completing course assignments at the bare minimum level of effort is not the type of academic work that earns a good grade. Points will be deducted off late work. If you feel you might have difficulty turning in any assignments, please contact me as soon as possible before the due date. Cheating, plagiarizing, and photocopying textbooks are NOT tolerated and will result in the failure of the course. Online tools Webex: Some classes are scheduled to be online via Webex. Please ensure that you can get online smoothly with both microphone and webcam working. You will get attendance points ONLY if you have all equipment ready. If you come online but with no mic or no webcam, you will NOT get the attendance score for that day. Google drive: You are expected to have a google drive and webex account. Almost all worksheets, homework, quizzes, and tests are online and require an account. If you don’t have those accounts set up yet, please do this for homework. Writing assignment formats: Google docs: Open restriction as “anyone with a link can comment”. Font: Times New Roman 12pts Heading: Include your full name, ID number, course number, assignment date Assignment title: Skip one line, and then center your title. Extra Resources: Writing consultation and English Tables https://lssc.web.nycu.edu.tw/%e6%b4%bb%e5%8b%95/
