The Cold War was not only a geopolitical confrontation between superpowers but also a lived reality that shaped everyday life across the globe. This course examines how the Cold War influenced structures of feeling, cultural expression, political discourse, and social interactions. With a particular emphasis on East and Southeast Asia, and with comparative references to global contexts, we will adopt an interdisciplinary approach to analyze how ideological struggles unfolded in media, education, popular culture, domestic life, and social movements, and how ordinary people navigated the complexities of life under Cold War conditions. By extending beyond conventional diplomatic and military narratives, this course highlights the intimate, localized, and transnational manifestations of the Cold War. Students will develop a critical understanding of how Cold War legacies continue to reverberate in the present. Note: This is an online course. Course link: https://meet.google.com/epf-tvqd-pgr
