This course is to build the ability to do research related to metasurfaces and flat optics. Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. Describe the fundamental theory of Electrodynamics, Fourier optics, and diffractive optics; 2. Explain the functions of different types of metasurfaces; 3. Compute and explain optical parameters of metasurfaces using simulation methods and/or optimization algorithms; 4. Critique other journal papers from journal presentations and QA sessions; 5. Develop a hands-on project related to metasurfaces. These knowledges, tools and skill-training will mature students and provide ability for their advanced research related to metasurfaces.
Opticalelectronics (光電子學), Physical Optics (物理光學), Fourier Optics (富士光學), Diffractive Optics (繞射光學), and computer coding skills (Matlab or Python).
Teaching with slides and board. Your questions about the material are the most important thing for you to bring to the lectures, and you are encouraged to ask them as they occur to you. Problem sets (homework) submission are due on the due date before class. Late submissions will be deducted 50% of the grade. You will be train to read abundant scientific papers and present in the class. At least 3 paper presentations are required. You are encouraged to ask questions after peers' presentation. You need to discuss your final hands-on project with me no later than week 9. TA: Wan-Tzu Kuo 郭婉慈 (melody0315.ee13@nycu.edu.tw; office: EO 401) TA sections: Thursday 12:20 – 13:10 (estimated)
1. Homework: 20% (late submissions will be penalized by 50%; assignments submitted more than one week late will not be accepted) 2. Paper presentations and participations: 60% (at least 3 presentations) 3. Final hands-on project, presentation and report: 20% (determined no later than week 9)
