As opposed to the colloquium the seminar is a specialised presentation or lecture to an audience that already has some level of expertise in the topic of the discussion. As a consequence it often is the main vehicle to spread and scrutinise the newest ideas in science research. From Wikipedia: "The word seminar was borrowed from German, and is ultimately derived from the Latin word seminarium, meaning 'seed plot' or seedbed." This meaning underlines the importance of seminars as the seeds of innovation and research progress. It is not uncommon that it was and is in a seminar where scientists get their inspiration for their most important achievements. In this course, we will listen to seminars on topics in high energy and astrophysics. Through attendance and participation in the discussions, we will learn about current trends in these fields and expand our learning horizons.
