This course explores how innovative technologies can be utilised to develop sustainable design solutions for business and society. Students will learn the theories of innovation management and entrepreneurial practice, integrating sustainability principles (environmental, social, and economic) in the design process. Through lectures, case analyses, group discussions, guest lectures, and practical projects, learners will gain both conceptual and applied knowledge of sustainable innovation and product development. Learning Objectives By the end of this course, students will be able to: 1. Integrate technology, innovation, and design thinking principles to address global sustainability challenges. 2. Evaluate new technologies' environmental, social, and economic impacts, identifying ethical considerations and potential trade-offs. 3. Develop and communicate project prototypes and business models that strategically balance profitability, responsible resource use, and stakeholder engagement.
Students are expected to have completed prior research courses offered by the course instructor. A foundational understanding of research design, methodology, and academic writing is essential for successful participation in this course.
This course will adopt a blended teaching approach combining lectures, seminars, discussions, presentations, and project-based learning.
1. Homework and Assignments, Exams and Quizzes, Evaluation and Grading Policy: Class participation (25%), Mid-term presentations (30%) Final Presentation (45%) Class Participation includes attendance, contributions to discussions, engagement in seminars and workshops, reflection homework, and collaborative learning behaviour. Mid-term and final presentations may include case analyses, project proposals, or reflective essays, and will be further explained during the course.
