By the end of this foundational course, students will be able to: 1. Understand the foundational principles of global health law and the role of international legal frameworks in shaping global health governance. 2. Analyze the intersection of intellectual property rights and global health, particularly in access to medicines and vaccines. 3. Examine the application of international human rights law in public health and its impact on health equity. 4. Explore the international legal frameworks governing pandemic preparedness and response. 5. Investigate the commercial determinants of health, with a focus on legal mechanisms for regulating tobacco and alcohol. 6. Assess public health law in the context of sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR). 7. Discuss emerging trends and future directions in global health law and governance. 1. Participation & Engagement – Students are expected to actively participate in discussions, and case studies to enhance their understanding of global health law. 2. Reading & Preparation – Assigned readings must be completed before each session to ensure meaningful engagement with the topics. 3. Assignments & Assessments – Students will be required to submit short written reflections or case study analyses to demonstrate their understanding. 4. Interdisciplinary Approach – The course will integrate perspectives from law, public health, and international relations to provide a comprehensive understanding of global health governance. 5. Case Studies & Practical Applications – Real-world case studies, legal instruments, and landmark global health agreements will be examined to bridge theory and practice. 6. Ethical & Policy Considerations – Discussions will include ethical dilemmas, equity concerns, and policy implications of legal frameworks in global health. 7. Final Discussion – The course will conclude with a forward-looking discussion on the evolving landscape of global health law, challenges, and opportunities for reform.

Class Participation (40%): Including Attendance, Literature Introduction, Class Discussion Level Reaction papers (60%): Write two reaction papers. Each will be a 2-page reaction paper (Font size 12, double spaced). Reaction paper 1: submit 24 hours before the 4th class. Reaction paper 2: submit 24 hours before the 6th class In reaction paper 1, the student should engage with any one of the reading materials assigned for classes 1,2,3. In reaction paper 2, the student should engage with any one of the reading materials assigned for classes 4 and 5. The reflection papers would be discussed in classes 4 and 6 respectively.
