概述

This course focuses on building academic English listening and discussion skills at the B2 level to prepare students for success in academic studies. Approximately 80% of the course content is academic-related. Students will develop the ability to comprehend extended spoken academic texts—including lectures, talks, and group discussions—and to engage in academic communication with clarity, fluency, and appropriate register. The course emphasizes active listening, critical thinking, synthesizing spoken and visual information, and participating effectively in academic discussions. By the end of the course, students will learn to: - understand the main ideas, key information, and supporting details in extended academic discourses such as lectures and discussions - follow complex lines of argument in spoken academic texts and identify organizational patterns (e.g., cause-effect, comparison, problem-solution) - interpret speakers’ opinions, attitudes, and stances based on word choice, tone, and context - synthesize information from spoken texts and related visuals (e.g., graphs, charts), and make logical inferences - take clear, structured notes during academic listening tasks to support comprehension and recall - participate actively in academic discussions by expressing viewpoints clearly, building on others’ ideas, and using appropriate academic vocabulary and expressions - ask and respond to academic questions appropriately and effectively in group discussions - refer to source material during discussions to support or elaborate on key points
