- Course Activities Lectures; seminar presentations (case–study participatory approach). Assignments for students will include a short persuasive letter with the goal of convincing or persuading the reader concerning some area of occupational/environmental health and safety; for example: a letter to the editor of a newspaper, a proposal to the CEO of a company, advocating the continuation or initiation of a program, such as a wellness program, or a proposal to a public servant or government agency. - Course Description This course provides an overview of the major influences and foundations to enable students to effectively manage occupational health policy and administration issues that they may encounter in their future careers. The objectives of this course include: Health policy and politics Demonstrate capacity to apply conceptual framework for understanding political and policy processes in health care. Explain how political institutions and processes influence resource allocation in health care. Understand basic organization, financing, and delivery of health services and public health systems. Discuss the policy process for improving the health status of populations. Health management Develop financial literacy. Demonstrate understanding of the human, social, and economic dynamics of organizational behavior. Develop competency in making effective managerial decisions under conditions of uncertainty.
