This course explores the multifaceted relationship between work, labor, health, and society through sociological theories and real-world case studies. Integrating perspectives from Marxist theory, gender studies, labor policy, occupational medicine, migrant labor experiences, and Taiwan’s contemporary labor challenges, students will critically analyze how labor and health intersect within various social and legal contexts. Guest lectures by experts and practitioners, as well as workplace site visits, will enrich students’ understanding and foster applied learning. Course Objectives 1.Understand Classical and Contemporary Labor Theories Students will grasp key concepts in labor studies, including Marx’s labor-capital theory and recent sociological perspectives on workplace dynamics. 2.Analyze the Social and Gendered Dimensions of Work Students will assess how gender, service work, and marginal labor affect workers' rights andwell-being. 3.Examine Labor Policies and Occupational Health Students will learn about Taiwan’s labor regulations, occupational safety and health laws, and their role in shaping labor conditions. 4.Explore the Medical Perspective on Occupational Health 附件1 Students will gain foundational knowledge in occupational medicine and understand the evaluation of work capacity and related case studies. 5.Engage with Current Labor Issues in Taiwan and Globally Through guest lectures and real-world examples, students will critically reflect on contemporary challenges, such as labor precarity and migrant worker health. 6.Develop Practical Research and Analysis Skills Through mid-term and final presentations, students will enhance their ability to conduct research, present findings, and discuss solutions to work/labor and health issues.
