This course aims to enhance students’ academic listening comprehension and discussion skills at the CEFR B2 level. Students will practice listening to authentic academic lectures and talks, develop note-taking techniques, and participate in structured and spontaneous academic discussions. Emphasis will be placed on vocabulary development, critical thinking, and fluency in expressing ideas. By the end of the course, students will be able to: • Comprehend main ideas and specific details in academic lectures. • Take effective notes using strategies such as outlining and mapping. • Summarise and paraphrase spoken academic content. • Participate in academic discussions using appropriate language and structures. • Ask and answer questions to clarify understanding. • Use academic vocabulary and expressions for discussion and critical analysis.
a) Attendance and active participation are essential for this course. IIf you are unable to attend the class, please ensure you email me prior to the start of the class as valid proof. If you miss more than two classes without an appropriate reason, you will not receive full credit for attendance. If you are absent more than five times, your participation score will also be affected. b) Only being present during roll call counts as attendance. If you are late, you will be marked as absent. c) Absence from a class is no excuse for not knowing the assignment and what has been discussed in class. It is the student’s responsibility to find out what has been covered in the class by checking E3 or getting handouts/notes from the classmates. d)No late work / make-up exams will be accepted (unless you have requested an extension and been given approval ahead of the deadline). e). Please be aware that any work of yours should be completed on your own and any kind of plagiarism for assignments is not acceptable, i.e., copying, Google translation or AI tools are not accepted and the score will be ‘0’.
The course emphasizes academic-related fields, assessing students on their proficiency in academic listening, critical information analysis, and public presentation skills. 20% Attendance 35% in-class participation, assignments, quizzes, etc. 15% Final Exam (Listening) 30% Project - Presentation
