概述

課程概述與目標: This course aims to develop students' general English proficiency at the B2 level, with an emphasis on improving English listening and speaking skills. Approximately 50% of the course content is related to academic contexts. It aims to advance students' English listening and speaking skills. Students will further develop listening skills through authentic listening materials. Students will also develop speaking skills through a variety of interactive activities. By the end of the course, students will learn to: • - comprehend English listening materials of different topics • - take notes • - understand different accents • - speak with confidence • - express personal opinions • - ask and answer questions appropriately • - lead and participate in effective group discussions • - deliver oral presentations using visual aids

- Weekly listening and speaking exercises and quizzes Policy on the Use of Smart Devices in Class - You are not permitted to use smart devices (e.g., smartphones, laptops, and tablets) during class time. - If I see you using a smart device in class, I will give you a warning. If I see you using a smart device again, you will lose your attendance and participation credit for that class meeting.

Mid-term 40% - Speaking 20% (A 3-min speech. Students will be given topics in advance), Listening 20% (multiple-choice test) Exam 40% - Speaking 20% (Small-group discussion. Students will be given topics in advance), Listening 20% (multiple-choice test) Attendance and participation: 20% In order to receive full credit each week, students must attend the class meeting for the entire two hours. Otherwise, no credit will be given. Students who are more than 10 minutes late to class, or who leave class before the end of class, will be counted as absent, and will not receive their attendance and participation credit for that week. Absent students can receive their attendance and participation credit if their absence is excused. In order to receive an excused absence, students must submit their request for leave via NYCU’s Student Leave System (學⽣請假系統) and have their request approved. No attendance and participation credit will be given for unexcused absences. Students who are absent for more than two course meetings (whether excused or unexcused, not counting the first class meeting, the midterm and exam) will receive a grade of zero for the course.
