學術英文(Academic English)是指應用於大學(含)以上的高等教育和研究場域常使用的英語，具備結構化的表達風格並有常用語彙(這些字意思會與日常英語不同)，其應用面向包含簡報發表、課堂筆記、寫科學報告或小論文、閱讀學術期刊文章，以及寫信給助教老師和申請入學…等等。 本學期為人社系學生規劃的學術英文課，以練習英文書寫和深化閱讀學術英文能力兩項目標為主。課堂會利用綜合使用寫作教材和入學申請要覽，每周安排不同主題，認識學術英文的基本架構、核心詞彙、思考和重點，經由每堂課少量而反覆地練習，協助同學建立適合自身的學習技巧，培養勇於嘗試的心態。於課堂學習中，亦會加入多種媒體材料，設計簡短的課堂練習和互動，讓同學習慣用英語口說表達自己想法。 (It’s the draft of the syllabus. 1. In-class Participant 30% (Attendance and Engagement) This grade measures your presence and active involvement in classroom interactions and short exercises designed to help you practice English speaking and expressing ideas. Including (but not limited to) the activities in Week 3, 4, and 11. The goal is to build habit-forming skills in using Academic English through repeated low stakes practice. 2. The First Draft of Proposal 5% You are required to search for a Master’s (MA) or overseas exchange program that interests you. Complete the provided guide sheet in English by answering the specific questions regarding your chosen program. Submit this draft via E3 system by 10:00 pm on Tuesday, March 24, 2026. 3. Film Watching Feedback (Week 9 and Week 13) 20% (10% per assignment) After watching documentary, you will practice notetaking and discussion skills. Fill the form as your feedback assignment and then submit via E3 system. Homework 2 is due by 10:00 pm on Tuesday, April 28, 2026. Homework 3, the second film review is due by 10:00 pm on Tuesday, May 26, 2026. 4. City Field Research Presentation by Group 25% Group will visit a museum, gallery, historic spot, or other points of interest. You must take photos and pay close attention to the English introductions provided at the location to prepare your materials. The Group will present their city trip finding to the class on June 9, 2026. Detailed guideline and rubrics for the presentation will be provided in the class on Week 13. 5. The 2-3 page Proposal 20% Please submit the finalized version of your Statement of Purpose (SOP). Your document must adhere to the formal template distributed in the class. Submit the final version via E3 system by 10:00 pm on Tuesday, June 16, 2026. Note: Optional consultation slots are available on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, between 1:30 pm and 4:30 pm.
