The course introduces students to major authors and works from Romanticism to the twentieth century, with particular attention to characteristic themes, the cultural and social contexts of each period, and the development of literary styles across these eras. *The syllabus uploaded here is provisional and may be adjusted according to the actual progress of the class. Prerequisite: None by regulation. Prior completion of the following courses is strongly recommended: Introduction to Western Literature (I) & (II) English Literature I
Midterm exam (W8): 20% Final project (W16): 20% Attendance, quizzes, discussions, in-class or take-home assignments: 60% *The instructor reserves the right to adjust the percentage of each grade category at her sole discretion. *Students are required to respect the class, the instructor, their classmates, and all class rules. *To prevent delay and disturbance to the class, the door will be closed at 1:20 p.m.

Norton Anthology of English Literature, shorter 11th edition, volume 2. For readings not included in the Norton Anthology, handouts will be posted on E3. *Older editions of the textbook may be used, but students who use a different edition are responsible for locating the corresponding pages and passages discussed in class.
