概述

Silicon photonics is an emerging technology that integrates electronics and photonics to create powerful and highly functional electronic–photonic integrated circuits for a wide range of applications. It draws on interdisciplinary knowledge spanning photonics, electronics, materials science, and semiconductor engineering. This course focuses on: (a) understanding the operating principles and underlying physics of key active and passive devices required for silicon photonic circuits; (b) fabrication approaches and integration technologies; (c) the design and modeling of silicon photonic circuits, (d) important applications for silicon photonics.Practical tape-out of silicon photonic circuits will also be covered. Through hands-on projects, students will acquire the essential knowledge and practical skills needed to design and develop silicon photonic technologies.

Possession of basic knowledges on wave optics and semiconductor fabrication.
