概述
This course conveys fundamental knowledge for deformable body mechanics. It aims to equip students with fundamental skills for future courses, including materials design and microstructure analysis. The course explores the behavioral responses (e.g., stress, strain, deformation, displacement, and strain energy) of different structures (such as rods and shafts) under various loading conditions (such as axial force, torque, shear force, and bending moment).

| 第 1 週 | Introduction to fundamental necessary, including free body diagram (FBD), normal stresses and force balance |
| 第 2 週 | Tension, compression and shear |
| 第 3 週 | Axial loading: We use elasticity (stress-strain behavior) to understand material strength. |
| 第 4 週 | Multiaxial loading (3-dimensional stress): we will look at materials that are subjected to multiaxial stress. |
| 第 5 週 | Pure bending: We learn beam deformation, analyse stress and strain distribution in a beam cross- sectional area |
| 第 6 週 | Shear and moment diagrams: 1) How to establish shear and moment diagrams; 2) Determine the largest shear and moment in a member from shear and moment diagram; 3) Relations among load, shear and moment. |
| 第 7 週 | Deflection of Beams: This section deals with the amount of deflection a beam may undergo when it is subjected to a load |

| 第 9 週 | Shear stress in beams: 1) To find shear stress in cross-section beams that behaves in a linear-elastic manner; 2) To introduce shear flow |
| 第 10 週 | Torsion: We deal with the the effects of torsional loading to shaft/tube with circular cross section, determine torsional deformation of a circular shaft, covering stresses and angle of twist in the elastic range |

| 第 12 週 | Stress transformations/ Principal stresses: 1) How to transform the stress components associated with a particular coordinate system into components associated with a coordinate system having a different orientation 2) Determine maximum normal and maximum shear stress 3) How to apply Mohr's circle |
