This course introduces the principles and practice of systems engineering (SE) for complex socio-technical systems in manufacturing, information systems, and healthcare. The course emphasizes three major parts: (I) Foundations of Systems Engineering, (II) System Concept Development, and (III) Engineering Development. Students will learn how to elicit stakeholder needs, develop system requirements, create functional and physical architectures, evaluate alternative concepts with tools such as Statistics, Simulations or Generative AI. Team Based Project: A term project gives students hands-on experience applying SE methods to a real-world system that each group decides to take on. Role-play in the projects will be asked in order to apply different prospective in understanding and analyzing a system from different prospectives.
Students are highly recommended to be familiar at least one programing language (such as Python), or any system / mathematical modeling tool. The capability of creating pilot system models or Proof of Concept (PoC) simulation is crucial for this class. Engineering background or prior working experience is a plus (not a must). Contact the professor if you have questions.
此課程原則上以光復與陽明兩個校區同步實體上課的方案進行,課程以光復校區(工業工程與管理學系所在地)為主,若陽明校區有一定的修課人數,老師可於兩個校區隔週輪流進行實體上課。
Term project will be assigned in the 2nd week of the class. Group size is from 3 - 5 people. •Homework, Case Study Write-ups, Paper/journal review comments: 40% •Mid Term: mixed of test and term project presentation, 20% •Assigned System Engineering subject presentation: 10% Different from term project. Each group of two students will be assigned a subject related to system Engineering to be presented in the class. •Term Project: 30% Each team will need to demonstrate a Prototype system and evaluate the results.
