概述

This course aims to provide engineering students with an introduction to various heat transfer mechanisms and analyses. The fundamentals and applications of conductive, radiative, and combined-mode heat transfer will be discussed. A term project will practice the modeling of thermal systems (must be modern world-associated). By the end of the semester, students are expected to be able to: 1. Analyze engineering problems via mathematic approaches 2. Write governing equations for physical problems, including actual systems 3. Solve the governing equations by mathematical techniques 4. Explain the physical meanings of mathematical equations/calculations. 5. Improve English listening and reading skills and be ready to take more EMI courses 6. Use communication skills and work as a team

先修科目

Preferably engineering mathematics, heat transfer, and thermodynamics.

教學方式

A. All course materials will be available on e3, including the syllabus, lecture notes, and grades. A Mandarin version of the lecture will be provided if needed. B. All in-class assignments have the same weight and will be individually submitted via e3. C. The two lowest grades of the in-class assignments will not be included in the final grade. D. Term project will be graded in groups of 5. All students must participate in the proposal presentation, final presentation, and report writing, or no points will be given to respective subjects even though they should be graded in groups. Part of the score will be given based on the funds each group raised during the presentations. ※ For all quarantined or sick leave students and those taking this course remotely, recorded lectures will be posted on e3 (only for the students in need). However, lectures will only be available for a week on e3 to ensure all students are on the same page.
