The goal of this course is to introduce a number of representative selection of classic topics that highlight the advancement of understanding in solid state as well as condensed matter physics as a whole. The covered topics will integrate the broadly celebrated observations in relevant fields that have made significant breakthrough, which lay the foundation in both fundamental understanding and potential application perspectives. The context will include but not limit to the general concept of phase transitions (Landau theory, scaling theory...), electronic instability (e.g. charge density wave order), magnetism in insulators, correlated electron systems, etc.

50% Poster + Oral presentation in 3 minutes 50% Final paper report + Q&A discussion in 15 minutes
