Supply Chain Management (SCM) is concerned with designing, planning and controlling the processes involved in producing and delivering goods and services. This encompasses a wide range of products including physical items like clothes and electronics, commodities such as coal and oil, as well as services like transportation, hospitality, and entertainment. While having a solid strategy is essential, its success hinges on effective execution to consistently meet customer expectations. In an increasingly volatile and unpredictable world, superior execution is paramount for sustainable business success. This course is designed to provide concepts, models and methods that are important for the design, control, operation, and management of global supply chains in a dynamic world. The course introduces frameworks and approaches that can be used to describe and analyze related operations and supply chain strategies. The topical coverage reflects the desire to highlight those strategic operations and supply chain aspects that are critical to the success of a business. There are three distinct, but equally relevant dimensions of operations and supply chain management: the business dimension, the technical dimension and the leadership dimension. While fundamental concepts are relatively straightforward to grasp, developing soft skills and experiencing the outcomes of execution pose greater challenges. To address this, a business simulation game called "The Fresh Connection (TFC)" will be utilized as an instructional tool. Through this simulation, students will have the opportunity to manage a simulated company within a dynamic environment, gaining firsthand insight into the consequences of various decision-making scenarios.
