Chapter 35: Plant Structure, Growth, and Development; Chapter 36: Transport In Vascular Plants; Chapter 37: Plant Nutrition; Chapter 38: Angiosperm Reproduction and Biotechnology; Chapter39: Plant Responses To Internal and External Signals。 Chapter 40: Basic Principles of Animal Form and Function; Chapter42: Animal Digestive Systems; Chapter 43: Animal Transport Systems; Chapter 45: Animal Reproductive Systems。 General Biology (II) is a required second-semester course for first-year students in the Department of Biological Science and Technology at National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University, and it is also offered as one of the university’s general education courses. The textbook used for General Biology (II) is Biology: A Global Approach by Campbell. In this English-medium course offered in the second semester, the content is divided into two major parts. The first part covers the structure and physiology of flowering plants, consisting of five chapters: • Chapter 35: Plant Structure, Growth, and Development • Chapter 36: Transport in Vascular Plants • Chapter 37: Plant Nutrition • Chapter 38: Angiosperm Reproduction and Biotechnology • Chapter 39: Plant Responses to Internal and External Signals The second part focuses on the structure and physiology of animals, including: • Chapter 40: Basic Principles of Animal Form and Function • Chapter 42: Animal Digestive Systems • Chapter 43: Animal Transport Systems • Chapter 45: Animal Reproductive Systems The Course Intended Learning Outcomes (CLOs) are as follows: 1. Solidify Knowledge Foundation 1-1. Strengthen the conceptual basis for advanced biology courses. 1-2. Build core scientific understanding and analytical thinking. 1-3. Foster Active learning 1-4. Apply knowledge to daily life 2. Develop Professional Capabilities 2-1. Scientific abilities: cultivate curiosity and creativity. 2-2. Communication skills: enhance verbal, written, and multimedia presentation abilities. 3. Establish Professional Connections 3-1. Leadership and teamwork: engage in collaborative learning. 3-2. Interpersonal relationships: build mutual respect and cooperation. 4. Utilize English as a Learning Tool 4-1. Use English to efficiently acquire advanced scientific knowledge. 4-2. Practice thinking and communicating in English for professional growth

This is an EMI (English-medium instruction) course. English will be the major language used to deliver the content. Students are encouraged to use English in this class, but Chinese is also allowed when communicating with the teacher and classmates.

1. 本課為EMI(English-Medium Instruction)課程,英語為主要授課語言,使用程度佔70%以上。 1. This course is an EMI (English-Medium Instruction) course, in which English is the primary language of instruction and is used for more than 70% of the teaching. The textbook, lecture slides, and exam materials are all in English. 2. Team-Based Learning (TBL): Students work in teams to complete learning tasks, including homework assignments. A semester-long plant research project is designed using Project-Based Learning (PBL), requiring students to produce a written final report and a video presentation as part of the project outcome. 3. Flipped Classroom: Four physiology chapters are taught using a flipped classroom approach. Each chapter is assigned to one student team, which is responsible for delivering the entire chapter in English. During student-led instruction, the instructor supplements and clarifies key concepts as needed. In addition to classroom lectures by the teacher, students are required to participate in group discussions. Furthermore, student groups are expected to engage in flipped classroom teaching by conducting group presentations. The final project includes introducing a plant species as a group and presenting the results of a cultivation experiment on the chosen plant. The report should be presented in both written and video formats. During the flipped classroom teaching activity, each group is required to choose a weekend to conduct a teaching rehearsal with the teacher.

10%。 (The Midterm, 30%, the Final Exam, 20%, Final Video Report, 20%, the Final Written Report, 20%; croup lecturing, 10%)
