This course is designed to help students achieve the following learning objectives: 1. acquire foundational knowledge of semantics and pragmatics; 2. develop critical thinking and logical reasoning skills for analyzing semantic issues; 3. learn the techniques necessary for conducting original research in semantics; 4. write a well-organized research paper in semantics.
introductory courses in syntax and/or semantics
Reading presentations: 30% Class participation: 20% Homework assignments (clarification questions, research questions, and/or summaries for the readings): 20% Final project (oral presentation on weeks 15-16 & term paper): 30% Note: Graduate students who are currently working on their theses may consult with the instructor to arrange a more flexible and feasible evaluation plan.
