This course provides a comprehensive introduction to the principles and applications of magnetic materials. It begins with the fundamental concepts of magnetism, including magnetic moments, magnetic fields, and magnetic susceptibility. The classification of magnetic behaviors such as diamagnetism, paramagnetism, ferromagnetism, antiferromagnetism, and ferrimagnetism will be explored in detail, emphasizing their physical origins and distinguishing characteristics. A focused examination of ferromagnetism will cover critical concepts such as exchange interaction, magnetic anisotropy, domain formation, and domain wall dynamics, providing a deeper understanding of magnetic ordering and its implications in material behavior. The course also includes case studies on advanced magnetic systems, including magnetic nanostructures, magnetic semiconductors, and spintronics. The emerging field of spintronic devices, with a special focus on magnetoresistive random-access memory (MRAM) technology, will be discussed to highlight real-world applications of magnetic materials in data storage and logic devices. By the end of the course, students will gain both theoretical insights and practical knowledge essential for understanding and working with magnetic materials in research and technological applications.
