1. Class materials can be found on our shared Google doc and the E3 platform (https://e3.nycu.edu.tw/). 2. Active participation is required. Attendance will be taken in each class. Please join the class on time. Being late for more than twenty minutes is regarded as being absent for that hour. TWO POINTS will be taken off from your final grade for each hour of absence. Students are welcome to bring in their personal experience in public speaking and presentation as well as share their methods of improving the subject matter. 3. If you are absent due to uncontrollable situations, such as acute/severe illness, emergency, important occasions, etc., please file your application along with the valid proof on NYCU Students Leave System within 1 week. The medication receipt with correct stamp of date by accredited hospitals can be seen as a valid proof. The instructor reserves the right to refuse or revoke leave of absence application. If you are absent for more than 3 lessons without advance notice, you will fail the course. (For further information, please refer to https://scahss.sa.nycu.edu.tw/?page_id=347) 4. Absence from a class is no excuse for not knowing the assignment and what has been discussed in class. It is the student’s responsibility to find out what has been covered in the class by checking E3 or getting handouts/notes from the classmates. No late work will be accepted (unless you have requested an extension and been given approval ahead of the deadline).
Attendance 10% Our class meets only once a week. The types and content of the activities and discussions that take place in the classroom cannot be accessed outside of class; attendance is essential. Participation 15% This part includes in class group work, in individual work, and homework. Resume 10% You will write 1 draft before submitting the final draft. The first draft will be reviewed by your peers. The final draft will be reviewed by the instructor with comments and suggestions. Formal Self introduction 15% You will prepare a written script for a formal 1 minute self introduction (about 1 paragraph). Then during a designated time slot, you will share your formal self introduction in front of the entire class. The following is the distribution of score: 5% is the script which will be graded by the instructor. 10% is your presentation performance graded by all classmates (average of everyone's score). LinkedIn Profile 5% You will create your own LinkedIn profile, which will be reviewed by your peers. After revision, the profile will be reviewed by the instructor with comments and suggestions. Cover Letter 10% You will write 1 draft before submitting the final draft. The first draft will be reviewed by your peers. The final draft will be reviewed by the instructor with comments and suggestions. Emails 10% You will write 1 draft for 3 different types of emails. Midterm 15% This is an online Google Form exam testing content from the grammar book. Application ePortfolio 10% All students are required to send in a real application to a company or school of your choice. You can do this at any point of the class, but I suggest you apply early or you won’t have enough time to finish the reflection assessment. During week 16, students will turn in an e- portfolio (1 pdf file) reflecting your experience of the application process and results. This should include 2 parts: The first section should include evidence of the application to a real company or school and all FINAL documents that you sent in. The second part should be reflections. Possible topics could include writing about your growth and learning, why you succeeded or not, future changes etc… There is no limit in word count; it will be assessed on quality over quantity.
